CAIR-NY Welcomes Charges Brought in Alleged Neo-Nazi Plot to Poison Minority Children
(NEW YORK, NY, 7/16/2024) - The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a federal grand jury’s four-count indictment charging alleged neo-Nazi Michail Chkhikvishvili with soliciting hate crimes and acts of mass violence in New York City.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office Eastern District of New York:
“Chkhikvishvili is alleged to be a leader of the Maniac Murder Cult, also known as ‘Maniacs Murder Cult,’ ‘Maniacs: Cult of Killing,’ ‘MKY,” ‘MMC’ and ‘MKU,’ an international racially or ethnically motivated violent extremist group. Chkhikvishvili allegedly recruited others to commit violent acts in furtherance of MKY’s ideologies, including planning and soliciting a mass casualty attack in New York City from an undercover law enforcement employee whom Chkhikvishvili believed was a prospective MKY recruit.”
He allegedly planned attacks that involved handing out poisoned candies to “racial minorities” and to Jewish children in Brooklyn.
United States Attorney Breon Peace said: “As alleged, the defendant sought to recruit others to commit violent attacks and killings in furtherance of his Neo-Nazi ideologies. His goal was to spread hatred, fear and destruction by encouraging bombings, arson and even poisoning children, for the purpose of harming racial minorities, the Jewish community and homeless individuals.”
“We welcome these charges and the fact that the alleged plan to attack minority communities was thwarted and that the suspect was apprehended,” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher. “This disturbing case points to the urgent need for all Americans to speak out against the hatred and division being promoted in this country and around the world.”
She said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR-NY's mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
