CAIR-NY Condemns Vicious Attack on Elderly Sikh Men in Queens, Applauds NYPD’s Swift Response and Hate Crime Probe
(NEW YORK, N.Y. 4/13/2022)—The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned yet another attack on New York’s Sikh community, in which two elderly men were violently beaten and struck with sticks.
The men, ages 76 and 64, were assaulted by two other men in the Queens neighborhood of Richmond Hill, where another elderly Sikh man had been beaten just days earlier.
CAIR-NY also condemned last week’s attack on an elder Sikh man in Queens.

“We condemn these horrific attacks on the Sikh community and applaud the NYPD’s arrest of one of the suspects,” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nashar. “Members of New York’s many faith communities continue to live in fear of being harassed or assaulted because they choose to dress in accordance with their beliefs. We stand united with them and with all New Yorkers who wish to express their faith openly, without fear of harm.”
She said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and white supremacy.
CAIR-NY’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR-NY es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
