CAIR-NY Stands in Solidarity with Jewish Community After Hate Incident Targeting Synagogue

(NEW YORK, NY, 1/26/2020) — The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today expressed solidarity with the Jewish community after an act of hate targeting a synagogue in Greenport, N.Y.

According to police, on January 19th Tara Rios threw a package of pork chops onto the front steps of the Congregation Anshe Emeth in Greenport. Rios returned that evening to take photos of the scene. Rios is charged with Harassment in the First Degree as a Hate Crime.

In a statement, CAIR-NY Litigation Director Ahmed Mohamed said:

Anti-Semitism and xenophobia in any form are reprehensible. We continue to stand in solidarity with the Jewish community. Acts of hatred and harassment at houses of worship are unacceptable. As we have stated many times, an attack on any house of worship is an attack on all houses of worship.

CAIR and the American Muslim community have in the past expressed solidarity with Jewish, Christian, immigrant, Native American, African-American, Sikh, and other targeted minority communities nationwide following acts of hate, threats, violence, vandalism, arson or bombings.
