CAIR-NY Condemns Anti-Asian Hate Crime on New York City Bus

(NEW YORK, NY, 4/21/2025) – The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today strongly condemned an Anti-Asian crime on a Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) bus earlier this month.

Prior to the incident on April 6th in Harlem, the suspect allegedly made anti-Asian remarks before dragging a woman by her hair and punching a man in the face. The victims received minor injuries while the suspect had fled the scene. 

In a statement, CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher, Esq. said: 

“We strongly condemn all acts of hatred targeting any racial identity. Every community deserves to feel safe using the subway. We urge law enforcement to thoroughly investigate this incident and take steps to protect our neighborhoods.”  

She added that anyone with information about the attack should immediately contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-8477, or for Spanish, 1-888-577-4782. Tips can also be sent to the NYPDTips.
