CAIR-NY Welcomes Passage of Resolution Recognizing Muslim History Month in New York State

(NEW YORK, NY, 2/3/25) – The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the passage of Resolution No. 257 by the New York State Senate, recognizing May 2025 as International Muslim Heritage Month.  

International Muslim History Month was created with the goal of offering Muslims in New York and across the globe an opportunity to reflect on and explore the rich and authentic history of Islam. The observance highlights significant events, influential figures, and transformative contributions that have shaped societies throughout history.

CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher, Esq., said:  

  

“This resolution reflects New York’s celebration of religious diversity and is an important opportunity to amplify the voices of American Muslims to combat the prejudice and discrimination they often face. We are deeply grateful to for the advocacy and support of this resolution.”  

She urged communities to participate in International Muslim Heritage Month, which aims to foster understanding and promote solidarity of understanding the Muslim faith.
