CAIR-NY Condemns Anti-Asian Subway Attack
(NEW YORK, NY, 7/26/24) - The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today condemned a reported attack on a subway train in which the alleged assailant made anti-Asian remarks and punched the victim in the face. The suspect reportedly fled the train.
“We condemn this allegedly bias-motivated attack and stand in solidarity with the Asian American community and all other minority communities targeted by rising bigotry nationwide,” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher.
She noted that last month, CAIR-NY welcomed a hate crime charge brought against a suspect who allegedly attacked a Muslim woman on a subway train platform in April.
Nasher said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Jewish bias, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR-NY's mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR-NY es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
