CAIR-NY Condemns Anti-Asian Harassment Incident in Brooklyn
(NEW YORK, NY, 11/14/2024) - The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the alleged anti-Asian harassment of a man and woman in Brooklyn.
Police said the victims were walking when four people allegedly threw whipped cream at them while making anti-Asian remarks.
“We condemn this alleged attempt at racist harassment and urge law enforcement authorities to redouble their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice,” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher. “Members of all minority communities must be able to go about their daily lives without fear of being targeted by bigots.”
She noted that in October, CAIR-NY condemned the hate crime mugging and assault of an Asian woman in Brooklyn.
Nasher said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR-NY's mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR-NY es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
