CAIR-NY Condemns Hate Crime Mugging and Assault of Asian Woman

(NEW YORK, NY - 10/7/2024)— The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today condemned the hate crime mugging and assault of an Asian woman in Brooklyn. 

 

The woman was walking on a busy street in downtown Brooklyn when two individuals approached her. One reportedly made anti-Asian remarks while the other took her cell phone and caused minor injuries to her. NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the incident.

“Our streets must be safe for people of all backgrounds,” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher. “We condemn this despicable attack and thank law enforcement authorities for taking it seriously and taking action.”

 

She said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
