CAIR-NY Condemns Anti-Asian Hate Crime in Brooklyn

(NEW YORK, NY, 9/6/2023) - The New York chapter of the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today condemned an anti-Asian hate crime that reportedly took place in Brooklyn.
The alleged incident occurred in Prospect Park around noon this past Saturday. Images released by the NYPD reveal a man allegedly shouting anti-Asian remarks at another man. According to reports, he proceeded to hit him repeatedly with a stick before running away. The 46-year-old victim was treated on scene, and the NYPD Hate Crime Task Force has issued an investigation to locate the suspect.

In a statement, CAIR-NY’s Executive Director, Afaf Nasher said:
“We strongly condemn acts of xenophobia and senseless violence against our Asian American brothers and sisters. We support the Hate Crime Task Force in its ongoing investigation. Racist and hateful attacks violate the safety of all New Yorkers, and we must counter these incidents with solidarity and use every recourse available.”
She added that CAIR-NY and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging white supremacy, anti-Jewish hate, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and all other forms of bigotry.
