CAIR-NY Welcomes Hate Crime Charge in Racist Vandalism

(NEW YORK, NY, 3/16/2023) - The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today welcomed hate crime charges for a man accused of vandalizing buildings and landmarks in Lower Manhattan with Nazi symbols and racial slurs.
A 40-year-old Colorado man has been charged with felony criminal mischief, a hate crime, as well as three counts of aggravated harassment for spray painting swastikas and anti-Black slurs on buildings and landmarks in Lower Manhattan in 2021.

“We welcome these charges as evidence that racist hate will never be tolerated in our city. We stand with all New Yorkers who should be free to walk down the street without racist displays across buildings & landmarks.” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher.
She added CAIR-NY and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Jewish hatred, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
