CAIR-NY Condemns Pepper-Spray Attack on Muslim Teen
(NEW YORK, NY, 12/27/2023) - The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today called for hate crime charges for an alleged attack on a Muslim teenager who was reportedly called a terrorist and pepper-sprayed while walking in Brooklyn.
A woman allegedly called the 15-year-old girl a terrorist before pepper spraying her in the face, police said. The alleged attacker reportedly said, “You f—ing terrorist Muslim.” A suspect remains at large. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.

“We condemn this alleged attack and call on law enforcement authorities and public officials to do whatever they can to protect minority communities targeted by hate.” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher.
Earlier this month, CAIR-NY welcomed hate crime charges against a man suspected of tagging his building with threatening anti-Muslim graffiti.
In October, CAIR-NY responded to another attack on a Muslim teen who was also called A “terrorist.”
CAIR recently released a new paper on the state of Islamophobia leading up to and during the ongoing attacks by the far-right Israeli government against Palestinians in Gaza.
Washington, D.C., based CAIR also released new civil rights data showing that it has received a “staggering” 2,171 complaints over the past 57 days amid an ongoing wave of anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian hate.
