CAIR-NY Condemns Queens Church Vandalism, Welcomes Hate Crime Probe

(NEW YORK, NY, 1/31/2023) - The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), today condemned vandalism targeting a Queens Lutheran Church and welcomes a NYPD hate crime investigation of an individual who allegedly threw a rock at the church’s glass front door.
On Sunday, the alleged suspect threw a rock at the front glass door of the Grace Lutheran church in Forest Hills. He then walked closer to the front door and threw another rock at the church door. The incident has been classified as a hate crime by the NYPD.

“We welcome the hate crime investigation into this vandalism of a sacred space. When houses of worship are targeted, we cannot remain silent. We must all stand in solidarity with each other and do more to protect the sanctity of all sacred spaces.” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher.
She added that CAIR-NY and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging white supremacy, anti-Jewish hate, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and all other forms of bigotry.
