CAIR-NY Welcomes Arrest, Hate Crime Charges for Man Who Allegedly Shoved and Threatened a Jewish Man in Brooklyn
(NEW YORK, NY, 6/27/2022)—The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today welcomed the arrest of a man who allegedly shoved another man dressed in traditional Jewish clothing and threatened to “get rid of all you Jews” last month in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn.
The suspect, Orlando Cruz, 60, who was arrested Sunday, is being charged with assault as a hate crime and aggravated harassment.

Afaf Nasher, Executive Director of CAIR-NY, said in a statement:
“We welcome the news of this suspect’s arrest and applaud the NYPD for investigating this incident as a hate crime. CAIR-NY and the New York Muslim community condemn all forms of hate against our Jewish brothers and sisters and will continue to speak out and defend their right to practice their religion freely and dress as they please without fear of harassment.“
She added that CAIR-NY and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging white supremacy, anti-Jewish hate, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and all other forms of bigotry.
