(NEW YORK, N.Y., 10/25/2021) – The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the allegedly bias-motivated assault of a teenage girl on Brighton Beach Avenue, Brooklyn.

According to the NYPD, last Friday around 10 a.m. outside a market on Brighton Beach Avenue, a woman hit a 17-year-old teenage girl with a cardboard box and made anti-Asian statements before running off.

In a statement, CAIR-NY Legal Director Ahmed Mohamed said:

“CAIR-NY strongly condemns anti-Asian hate, and such bigotry is completely unacceptable. We are shocked to see an adult attacking a child. The Muslim community continues to support our Asian American community. Community members are urged to call Crime Stoppers with any tips about the suspect.”

He added that anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-8477 or for Spanish, 1-888-577-4782. Tips can also be sent to the NYPDTips Twitter account or submitted online at NYPDCrimeStoppers.com.

Mohamed said the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
