CAIR-NY Condemns Pro-Trump Hate Vandalism of Long Island Sikh Temple
(NEW YORK, NY, 8/6/2021) — The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today condemned the hate vandalism of a Sikh temple in Long Island earlier this week. The temple was reportedly spray painted with graffiti espousing racial and religious hatred, along with a statement of support for former President Trump.
Leaders of the Darbar Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji New York temple, located in New Hyde Park, Long Island, discovered hate messages such as “sand-ni**er,” “Jesus is the only God,” and “Trump 2024 Make America Great Again!”
Village Mayor Chris Devane has promised a concerted effort to incorporate everyone in the town and stamp out bias incidents perpetrated by “idiots.” Nassau County detectives are reportedly investigating the vandalism as a bias incident and have asked for the public’s assistance in identifying the vandals. Anyone with information can call (800) 244-TIPS, with all callers promised anonymity.

In a statement, CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher said:
“Even after Trump was voted out of office, New Yorkers continue to see the effects of his hate-filled agenda. Borrowing from both Sikh and Islamic principles, we too will remain optimistic that this latest bias incident targeting our Sikh brothers and sisters will only further strengthen our unity against hatred. Acts of racial and religious intolerance will never be accepted, nor will our communities allow bigotry to prevail.”
CAIR-NY recently condemned a hate attack against a 13-year old Sikh boy, which also occurred on Long Island.

CAIR’s mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
