CAIR-NY Welcomes District Leader Lori Maslow’s Resignation

(NEW YORK, NY, 01/29/2021) – The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed District Leader Lori Maslow’s resignation following her disparaging, hateful, and violent remarks about Palestinians and Chinese-Americans in a series of tweets.

Maslow resigned last night according to the King County Democratic County Committee’s twitter page.

The resignation comes after CAIR-NY, other organizations, elected officials, and community members continually demanded Maslow’s resignation.

In a statement, CAIR-NY Legal Director Ahmed Mohamed said:

“We welcome District Leader Maslow’s resignation, but it should have happened weeks ago. The fact she was permitted to continue her position for this long is incredibly disappointing and speaks to the lack of respect for the communities Maslow insulted with her anti-Asian, anti-Palestinian, and Islamophobic violent rhetoric.  When good people come together to fight hate and bigotry, we win as a community and city. This is a victory for the impacted communities that refused to remain silent in the face of Maslow’s bigotry.”

Mohamed noted that the Kings County Democratic County Committee failed to call for Maslow’s resignation despite public outcry.

In advocating for Maslow’s resignation, CAIR-NY petitioned the Kings County Democratic County Committee (KDCCC) for several weeks.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
