CAIR-NY Condemns Second ‘Kill Arabs’ Anti-Muslim Graffiti in Brooklyn; Calls for Public’s Help Identifying Culprit
(NEW YORK, NY, 6/20/19) – The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the latest incident of anti-Muslim graffiti, this time at a Brooklyn elementary school.
A worker at the school in Sheepshead Bay arrived at work Monday to discovery the hate-filled messages ‘Kill Arabs’ and ‘Muslims suck’ scrawled on the doors. This incident comes on the heels on a similar “Kill Arabs” hate message reported Sunday afternoon at a B44 bus stop on Nostrand Avenue and Avenue V. Both incidents are being investigated by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force.

The NYPD released surveillance footage of a potential suspect. He is described to be about 60 years old, 5-foot-10, 220 pounds and partially bald with white hair and a beard. The use of similar phrases led the police to suspect that the same person is responsible for both crimes.
CAIR-NY’s Executive Director Afaf Ñasher stated:
“This blatant act of hate against Muslims in the Sheepshead Bay community cannot be taken lightly. The fact that an elementary school was a target of these acts gives us even more incentive to take prompt action. It is unacceptable for our youth to be exposed to this bigotry.
“We ask law enforcement officials to do everything in their power to bring the perpetrator to justice and to assist in creating a secure, welcoming and hate free environment for our children and community members."
CAIR-NY is asking New Yorkers to help identify the perpetrator. Individuals with information should call 1-888-440-HATE. Individual may contact CAIR-NY with assistance in making reports or tips to the NYPD.
Individuals in New York are asked to report any bias incidents to police and to CAIR-NY at (646) 665-7599, or by filing a report at: https://www.cair-ny.org/incident-report/
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
