For the past two decades, CAIR-NY has sustained steady progress and established roots within the Muslim community by expanding our services, strategic partnerships, and the reach of our programs. We hope to extend the services we provided to the more than 1 million Muslims in New York with the addition of a staff attorney who will aid the Legal Director in civil rights matters and primarily extended CAIR-NY’s services to include immigration legal services.
Position Summary
CAIR-NY is seeking an attorney with a demonstrated commitment to public interest advocacy and serving diverse communities. This position aims to increase access to and provide culturally competent legal and immigration services to members of the New York State Muslim community. The Staff Attorney’s primary role will be to provide immigration legal services. The candidate will also be expected to assist the Legal Director with other civil rights matters. The candidate should have a strong passion for empowering immigrants and interest in representing discriminated individuals in front of administrative bodies and courts. The candidate will be expected to use creative legal and grassroots advocacy solutions to address systemic issues facing the American Muslim community.

Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate legal intake process, case selection, case referral.
Participate in all aspects of litigation including, but not limited to, client interviews, factual investigation, legal research, discovery, preparation of legal documents, negotiations, and trials in both state and federal courts; appear at administrative hearings.
Prepare applications and petitions [family-based petitions, naturalization and adjustment of status applications, etc…] for submission to appropriate immigration agencies.
Conduct community education and outreach including Know-Your-Rights presentations and clinics on issues of immigration, discrimination, and law enforcement interactions at mosques, community centers, and college campuses.
Build or maintain relationships with clients, affected communities, elected officials, law firms, law schools and legal clinics, allied legal groups, and other key stakeholders to advance the organization’s legal and policy work.
Participate in legislative advocacy as needed in consultation with the policy and advocacy team.
Assist other staff in the production of internal and external reports
All CAIR-NY staff are required to assist in general duties such as answering phones, weekly outreach, fundraising, and other office tasks.
Skills & Abilities
Excellent research, oral, and written communication to interface with community leaders, government officials, and staff in a professional and effective manner.
Familiarity, cultural competency, and experience interacting with Muslim audiences.
Legal knowledge and experience with immigration legal issues and common civil rights issues impacting Muslims in America.
Ability to work cooperatively and to communicate effectively with attorneys, other staff members, and diverse community organizations and coalitions on a variety of projects in legal and non-legal settings.
Comfort and familiarity in public speaking at mosques, community centers, legislative meetings and other public facing events, to a variety of audiences.
Some evenings, weekends and off-hour work will be required. Some travel will be required. Having your own car along with a valid driver’s license is a plus but not required.
Required Qualifications
Law degree from an American Bar Association accredited school
Licensed to practice law in New York State and member in good standing
1 or more years of experience
Familiarity with immigration and civil rights issues impacting the Muslim community
Preferred Qualifications
Arabic, Farsi, or Urdu proficiency
Experience working with non-profit organizations
Reporting Relationship & Location
The Staff Attorney will directly report to the Legal Director. The position is located in our New York City office. Due to COVID-19, staff is currently on a hybrid in-person and remote work schedule.
Compensation
The salary range is between $55,000 and $65,000, depending upon experience
CAIR-NY is invested in the professional development of its staff. Staff attorney will have access to mentors through the CAIR Legal Network and annual legal trainings.
The organization will reimburse attorney bar fees and provide access to CLE courses

We hope to extend the services we provided to the more than 1 million Muslims in New York with the addition of a Community Program Coordinator (CPC) who will lead timely community outreach efforts, expand educational programming, and improve data collection of bias incidents and hate crimes.
Position Summary:
CAIR New York is looking for a passionate and talented individual to be our full-time Communications Coordinator. Join one of the most dynamic teams serving the American Muslim community. This position aims to strengthen American Muslim civil rights and civic engagement, while also improving the image of Islam and American Muslims in the media.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Assist communications team in developing and implementing a communications strategy designed to further company objectives
Manage the CAIR-NY website with current content
Write a variety of different content to support communications and marketing efforts, including community updates, fundraising emails and letters
Prepare press releases, organize news conferences, and coordinate media interviews
Proactively work with journalists and influencers for strategic coverage of CAIR-NY work, Islam and American Muslims
Assist in creating periodic CAIR-NY publications such as the annual report and other educational materials
Providing digital and print marketing support for CAIR-NY programs and events
Post social media content, increase social media presence/following, monitor analytics and create reports detailing the successes and failures of communications campaigns
Managing graphic design, photography, layout, video editing and other multimedia needs and databases
Monitoring local and national news for coverage of Islam, Muslims, hate crimes, national security, civic engagement, and other relevant issues
Ensuring all communications adhere to CAIR’s core values, mission and branding guidelines
Other duties as assigned

Skills/Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications/Public Relations/Journalism or equivalent, relevant work experience
Excellent written and oral communication and managerial skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, SquareSpace, EveryAction, Canva, Adobe PhotoShop, and all major social media platforms
Experience with video production and editing
Compensation:
The annual salary is $45,000 - $55,000, dependent on experience. CAIR-NY is invested in the professional development of its staff.
