The Terror Factory: Inside the FBI's Manufactured War on Terrorism
Is the FBI foiling or creating terrorist plots?
A groundbreaking work of investigative journalism, "The Terror Factory: Inside the FBI’s Manufactured War on Terror" shows how the FBI has, under the guise of engaging in counter-terrorism since 9/11, built a network of more than fifteen thousand informants who infiltrate Muslim communities to create and facilitate fake terrorist plots for the bureau to foil and publicize as victories in the "War on Terror." The Terror Factory will help our communities realize the questions we should be asking our elected officials the next time we see a report or hear a story about a foiled terrorism plot and arrest championed by the FBI.
The author, Trevor Aaronson, will be joining us live for his book launch to discuss the need to end the disturbing policies used by law enforcement to entrap otherwise harmless citizens.
His reporting about FBI informants in U.S. Muslim communities resulted in a Mother Jones cover story that won multiple awards, including the John Jay College/H.F. Guggenheim excellence in Criminal Justice reporting Award, the Molly National Journalism Prize, and the international Data Journalism Award.
The event is hosted by the Columbia Law School Human Rights Institute, the Bill of Rights Defense Committee, CAIR-New York, CUNY CLEAR, Desis Rising Up & Moving, the NLG-NYC Muslim Defense Project, and the Rights Working Group. This event will be followed by a book signing.
